In the year 2009 the Curaçao-ASCD will celebrate its sweet 16th anniversary. During the years of its existence the Curaçao-ASCD has proven its right of existence amongst others by organizing its conferences and organizing different professional development activities in which all educators could participate. Also Curaçao-ASCD has been collaborating with the different educational partners such as the School boards, the Ministry of Education the Commissioner of Education, Bureau Nascholing, Director of Social Development, SNAYDP and Parent organization. On the international level the Curaçao-ASCD has worked in the past with different International organizations as well as US- affiliates such as The Trinidad and Tobago ASCD, The Saint Martin ASCD, Puerto Rico ASCD, Illinois ASCD, Washington ASCD and ASCD World Wide.
The 16th anniversary will be an appropriate moment to reflect on the 4 aspects of The Whole Child: emotional, mental, spiritual and physical in relation to Healthy School Communities.

The ASCD position adopted in December 2001
Successful learners are not only knowledgeable and productive but also emotionally and physically, healthy, motivated, civically engaged, prepared for work and economic self-sufficiency and ready for the world beyond their own borders.
Because emotional and physical health are critical to the development of the whole child, ASCD believes that health should be fully embedded into the educational environment for all students.

The Curaçao-ASCD in collaboration with the different partners will organize in the first week of November 2009 an International Conference.
This week was chosen because in the third week of November, to be exactly on the 20th of November, the UNESCO celebrates the International Child Rights Day. Commemoration of a day dedicated to the Rights of a child offers educational partners an unique opportunity to find common ground in working together on the strive for excellence in our efforts in creating a student care system in which students may grow to there full potential. The conference dates are 6th, 7th, 8th of November 2009.
